An original Gouache on board, depicting Caerphilly castle in its wintery outfit, at sundown.

This painting was greatly inspired by a recent sunset, where the subsidence of rainy weather, meant the sky was alite with gorgeous reds, oranges, and purples, set against a lovely crisp blue highlight.

I loved everything about the colour of this sunset, but wished to create a painting that would embody the calmness of it all.

This led me to creating a scene, after a recent snowfall. Which allowed me to really highlight the soft but beautiful colours of the sky, reflecting against the cold wintery snow.

Like a moonlit sonata
